Plums
Plant of uncertain origin, it is assumed it can come from the regions of the Southeast Asia. Introduced and cultivated in Europe for more than two thousand years. The plum tree is divided into two geographically distinct groups: the European plum tree and the Sino-Japanese one. The European plum has dark green oval and rather thick leaves, with the lower surface slightly hairy, flowers, blossoming before the leaves are white. The fruits, excluded some varieties are generally oval with colour ranging from yellow, green, red and purple-blue. Often the pulp is detached from the stone and is used for both fresh consumption and for drying, it is also known their laxative effect and the high amount of sugars, which give the fruit a good nutritional value. The Sino-Japanese plum tree has lance-shaped light green, very thin leaves, flowers are white and bloom occurs earlier than European plums. The fruits are generally round in shape, the colour varies from yellow to red to blue-black and are cultivated exclusively for fresh consumption.
